Powell Gives Merger Small Chance of Happening"We thought the public interest risks were fairly substantial (in the first review), and I think we've had some doubts as to whether that could easily be cured," Powell told reporters after delivering a speech to a law-school group at University of Colorado. Orbital Ships NASA Science Satellite to Launch SiteOrbital Sciences shipped the Solar Radiation and Climate Experiment (SORCE) satellite to the launch site at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral, Florida. In conjunction with a team from NASA and the University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, Orbital designed, manufactured, integrated and tested the spacecraft at the company's Dulles, Virginia facilities. In addition to supplying the satellite, Orbital is also the launch vehicle provider for the mission, using the company's unique air-launched Pegasus rocket. The SORCE mission is currently scheduled for a mid-December launch. Unlike previous Pegasus missions that have flown from Cape Canaveral, the majority of the pre-launch activities during the final month before SORCE is launched are taking place at KSC. On typical Pegasus missions, the satellite is first shipped to Orbital's facility at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California for integration with the rocket. The combined system is then flown on a cross-country ferry flight to the Florida site. For the SORCE mission, Orbital will fly the Pegasus rocket to Florida in early November and will complete the integration of the satellite and conduct final testing prior to the launch at KSC's Multi-Purpose Processing Facility (MPPF). About the SORCE Satellite The SORCE mission is being led by a principal investigator from LASP with NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center providing project management and engineering oversight. Scientists and engineers at LASP designed, built, calibrated and tested the four science instruments on SORCE. The Mission Operations Center and the Science Operations Center are both located at LASP, which will operate the spacecraft over its five-year mission life and is responsible for the acquisition, management, processing and distribution of the science data. Bell ExpressVu Grows Subscriber Base 31% Over Last YearBell ExpressVu added 45,000 net subscribers during the third quarter - a 31% increase since the third quarter of 2001. Orbital Signs Contract for PT Telekomunikasi IndonesiaOrbital Sciences said it signed a contract to manufacture a communications satellite for PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the country's state-owned telecommunications provider. Financial terms of the deal were not released, but Orbital said the scheduled delivery supports a launch in late 2004. The new satellite for Telkom will be launched into orbit at 118 degrees East longitude. The satellite will enable Telkom to replace its existing Palapa-B4 satellite with an expansion of its coverage area into Southern Asia and the Indian subcontinent in addition to its current Indonesian capacity. Bell ExpressVu Installed in Every Home in Edison Lane DevelopmentBell ExpressVu has developed a strategic partnership with Donovan Homes of St. John's, Newfoundland. Each new home in Edison Lane, a development of 120 semi-detached units off Brookfield Road in St. John's, will receive as a standard feature a Bell ExpressVu digital satellite television system.
