China Plans Anti-Jamming Satellite to Stop Falun GongChina plans to launch a French-made TV-satellite, APSTAR VI, equipped with anti-jamming technology to make it less vulnerable to Falun Gong interruptions. L-3 Communications Wins Satellite Control Network WorkL-3 Communications' Telemetry-West division has been awarded a multimillion contract to provide high power amplifiers to Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc. in support of the Satellite Control Network Contract. The value of the contract, when all options are exercised, is estimated at over $25 million. The AFSCN is a network of two communications and operational control centers and multiple antennas located at nine sites worldwide. These ground stations are the communications link between the National Command Authorities and U.S. forces worldwide. Honeywell, which earlier this year selected L-3's Communication Systems-West division as part of the Honeywell Technology Solutions team on the SCNC, competitively selected L-3 Telemetry-West to provide the multi-kilowatt HPAs in both L- and S-Band frequencies for dramatically improved satellite command capabilities. Texas Department of Health Selects Gilat's Spacenet for Distance Learning NetworkGilat Satellite announced its U.S. subsidiary, Spacenet, has been selected by the Texas Department of Health to provide a high-speed satellite communications network. The network will support interactive data applications and interactive distance learning (IDL) services to 520 offices throughout the state. TDH will use Gilat's Skystar Advantage VSAT network for its Bureau of Nutrition's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, which provides food benefits and nutrition education to individuals at nutritional risk as defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The VSAT data network is designed to enable WIC to more efficiently transmit clients' demographic and benefits issuance data to the WIC central office in Austin, TX. The network's IDL capabilities are intended to enable WIC to improve and expand its staff training program to remote locations, thus reducing travel costs and eliminating time out of the office. PanAmSat And JSAT Deliver Satellite Services in Asia PacificInmarsat Global Area Network (GAN) terminals will form the technological backbone of communications facilities to banks and financial institutions across the Philippine archipelago. Xantic, an Inmarsat service provider, will contribute satellite airtime and business support to Faslink Communications' financial transaction solutions in The Philippines. The Inmarsat GAN service will facilitate online data and transfers to over 2,800 banks spread across the provinces of The Philippines. Faslink is now preparing comprehensive EFTPOS and ATM switching facilities using Inmarsat GAN terminals with MPDS. The turnkey project will be rolled out over a period of three years. The new service based on Global Area Network (GAN) terminals with Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS) capabilities allows for continuous, always-on connection and because it is packet switched, the financial institutions will only pay for the data packets sent, rather than for the time online.
