AT&T To Shut Down CDPD PocketNet Network

AT&T said it will shut down its slow-speed CDPD wireless Internet service in 2004, now that it has constructed a higher-speed network. The company began offering wireless data service on its CDPD network in 1995 and marketed the service to consumers under the name PocketNet. The network was also used by businesses such as trucking companies, for tracking their fleets wirelessly, and retail stores, for wireless credit card transaction devices.
